Message of Chairman of Far East District Section

I feel greatly honoured to be elected as the Chairman for session 2011/12. First, I am indeed, indebted to last session’s chairman Mr C P Chan and all Management Committee members for their remarkable effort. By building on their excellent foundation, in the coming session, the Management Committee would gear towards the following objectives as denoted by the letters I, G, E & M.

The first letter I stands for Image. We will invest time and energy to promote the image of IGEM Far East District Section. Constructive collaboration with relevant professional organizations will be strengthened. Members will be encouraged to participate actively in conferences, seminars. Also, we will strive to reinforce the publicity of Far East District Section in IGEM journal. Our website will also be revitalized with enhanced utilization, and we will build a Chinese version website as well. To work towards the said objectives, a publicity taskforce and a website taskforce will be formed.

The second letter G represents Green. In response to the increasingly vocal calls for a low-carbon economy through the lens of sustainability, we need to promote gas as an answer to the call for green energy. We should contribute to a quality and sustainable living environment to the best of our capabilities.

The third letter E is Engagement. We will quest for the active engagement and contribution of our members, including the young engineers.

The fourth letter M stands for Membership. We will keep on identifying, attracting and developing potential IGEM members, both in HK and in the Mainland.

I hope this I-G-E-M “Image”, “Green”, Engagement” and “Membership” can win the support from all of you. Besides, on top of the newly formed task forces on Publicity and Website, we continue to operate the four existing task forces, namely (i) Membership & training; (ii) Technical Seminars; (iii) Technical Visits and (iv) Young Person Paper Competition. With this end in mind, it’s time for us to take the challenges and set our wheels in motion, but whatever lies ahead, with the collective effort of the Committee members and the unfailing support from all of you, we will join hands together to spearhead IGEM Far East District Section as one of the most successful professional bodies.
